About Us

Lewis-Ray Mortuary was established in 1983 after the licensing of Ms. Deloris Z. Lewis-Ray.

At the age of 16 Ms. Ray worked along with her dad, Mr. Amos Lewis in the family business known as Sunset Funeral Home of Titusville, FL. It would be many years later and several career changes would capitulate her into the family business. Her dad and mother, the late Bessie Ruth Lewis, made an offer she couldn't refuse.

The evolution of a seed planted in a young man's mind came to fruition when in December 1981, his only daughter graduated with honors from Miami-Dade College of Mortuary Science.

It would take two years before they walked into the new facilities of Lewis-Ray Mortuary, an independent-family owned Black business in the city of Titusville. With much encouragement and guidance from other great professionals, we proceeded to make a difference to each family served.

It has been an arduous journey with many self sacrifices, but with an abominable faith and trust in God, the business has seen abundant blessings. Having always been taught the "golden rule" we chose to serve all people with dignity regardless of their station in life.

Some of the civic and fraternal organizations in which we are major participants but are not limited to, include: Independent Funeral Directors of FL, Florida Morticians Associations, North Brevard NAACP, Police Athletic League, North Brevard Sharing Center, Cocoa-Brevard Chapter of TLOD, NCBW, numerous scholarship sponsorships, and county wide church support. Part of our giving back to the community include annual dinners, annual back to school give-a-ways, sponsorship of needy families, sponsorship of the MLK parade, and the B. Ruth Lewis Scholarship Fund.

With the loyal support from family, staff, and the community, Lewis-Ray Mortuary, evolved into a prominent highly-favored choice of the funeral industry.

In 2003 we took a "rookie" under our wings teaching him from a combined experience of 93 years. After attending mortuary school and is presently seeking his BS Degree, our godson has proven to be an asset to the business and the families we serve. His enthusiasm and fresh ideas has enhanced the dream of an old man we call "Pops" and taken funeral service to another level.

Our motto is "Built on Faith-Blessed with the Fruits" for it is by faith we've endured through the climate change of the funeral industry, and because of our faith we exemplify the fruits of our labor.

The founder of Lewis-Ray Mortuary is Mr. Amos "Pops" Lewis; President & Licensed Funeral Director in Charge and Embalmers is Ms. Deloris Z. Lewis-Ray; the managerial staff consists of Mr. Henry A. Carmicheal, Mr. Dennis W. Young, Mr. Daron Woods, male/female attendants, Mr. Tommy M. Myers, Mr. David Ferguson, Mr. Amos M.
